PC power supply market overview and future development trends

The PC power supply is an electrical converter that provides power to the power supply. More specifically, the PC power supply converts AC power into low-voltage regulated DC power for the internal components of the computer. Modern personal computers generally use switch mode power supplies. Some power supplies have a manual switch for selecting the input voltage, while others automatically adapt to the power supply voltage. In this report, “PC power supply” specifically refers to PC power supplies for desktop and industrial computers.

In 2020, it is not only the communications industry that will usher in 5G that will be disrupted in 2020. Intel has also made a complete change to the existing ATX12V power supply specification by killing the PC industry that has been dull for 30 years.

It can be said that many of the densely packed components and circuits on the motherboard are caused by this old design idea. But with the current technology, there is no need to design the motherboard so complicated. So Intel started from the power supply and introduced the new ATX12VO specification, where O means Only, which means that this set of specifications only uses 12V output and cuts 5V and 3.3V. Due to the lack of two output specifications, the socket of the new standard power supply to the motherboard has been reduced from the original 24pin to 10pin.
