DoNews, January 5 (Reporter Liu Wenxuan) According to DIGITIMES, with the vigorous development of GaN-on-Si charger products, there is news that Apple will also join the battle. Navitas Semiconductor, regarded as the world’s top three companies in the development of GaN technology, has begun to accept orders from Apple and will work with TSMC to produce GaN-on-Si chips.
This will mean that the size of Apple’s official power adapter is expected to be reduced. The 20W USB-C adapter currently sold by Apple is larger than the previous 5V 1A “tofu head”.
For Apple’s demand for USB-C chargers with a smaller size or higher specifications, the market has already heard about it. After all, in comparison with products of the same wattage, the size gap between Apple and other manufacturers’ GaN adapters is not small. .
Well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo once predicted that Apple will launch 2-3 new charger products in 2021. In other words, in addition to GaN chargers for iPhone, new chargers for Mac devices may also be seen this year.
